OSR and Bill Barsh's "The Grave of the Green Flame"

I don’t know Bill Barsh, but recommend his “Grave of the Green Flame, a BX Solo Adventure Module.” I’ve played it alone, stolen from it, met a favorite NPC, and know it’s a perfect intro module for new DMs to run with friends. The adventure starts with the PC, “returning to consciousness in a small roadside inn. The PC was ambushed several hours earlier…”

Each encounter is keyed to a section of a map that slowly emerges over the game. When your character enters a new section, you see a part of the map.

You also find perfect, brief descriptions of the scene:

The trail slowly descends into a hollow where the trees grow thicker and darker. Daylight struggles to break through the canopy of trees…A mound has been formed and dominates the area…it is covered with small stones. A single entrance to the mound is open.

I say it's perfect because it's like a score or script - each new scene includes choices, challenges, and just enough detail to get you going. Other great things are the mapping, a d4 wandering monster table with an elf, and rules for 'Adventure Points,' allowing a mulligan to re-roll a die.

I recommend this old school module, which you can still find online.
